BYU softball lost to the Iowa State Cyclones, 9-6, in game three of their series on April 18.
The outcome means the Cougars dropped the series to the Cyclones. The match was played in Provo, Utah.
The Cougars were out-hit by Iowa State nine to eight and committed two errors compared to one by the Cyclones. BYU pitchers recorded six strikeouts while Iowa State had two. Both teams finished with two two-out runs batted in (RBIs), and BYU pitching forced Iowa State to leave six runners stranded on base.
Rita Tavita contributed a home run and two RBIs for BYU, going one-for-three at bat. Hailey Shuler also hit a home run with two RBIs. Maddie Udall-Woolley added another solo home run, and Lily Owens had an RBI and scored once.
Iowa State took an early lead with a sacrifice fly in the first inning and extended it through timely hitting and capitalizing on Cougar errors. BYU narrowed the gap throughout the middle innings but could not overcome late scoring from Iowa State despite home runs from Tavita and Shuler.
Looking ahead, BYU is scheduled to host Weber State on Tuesday, April 21 at 6 p.m., with streaming available on ESPN+.
