Senator John Curtis (R-UT) has responded to new guidance from the Department of Treasury concerning Executive Order 14315, which addresses subsidies for wind and solar energy. The executive order, issued on July 7, 2025, aims to end market-distorting subsidies for energy sources considered unreliable or foreign-controlled.
In his statement, Senator Curtis said: “I appreciate the work of Secretary Bessent and his staff in balancing various concerns and perspectives to address the President’s executive order on wind and solar projects. Throughout these conversations, we have shared the goal of responsibly ending the decades-long tax credits for these industries while providing a soft landing. I look forward to further reviewing these changes to understand their full impact.”
He added: “I will continue working to ensure Utah companies—and all American innovators—have the certainty and opportunity they need to deliver the future we all want: affordable, reliable, clean energy rooted in American ingenuity.”
A recent economic analysis by ICF, commissioned by the American Clean Power Association, indicates that federal programs and clean energy tax incentives maintained during discussions with the Administration are expected to bring significant economic benefits to Utah over the next decade.
The projected benefits cover multiple sectors within Utah’s economy.
