Drivers in Salt Lake County and Northern Utah are being advised by the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) to prepare for significant traffic changes this weekend due to construction projects on Interstate 215 and Interstate 15.
On Friday, August 8, at 11 p.m., northbound I-215 between North Temple and State Route 201 will be reduced to one lane until Saturday, August 9, at 9 a.m. The closure will allow crews to shift all northbound lanes eastward as part of a freeway reconstruction effort. According to UDOT, “These lane closures will allow crews to begin shifting all northbound lanes to the east to accommodate the reconstruction of the freeway. The new traffic shift will be in place by Saturday morning and will create a safe work zone for the installation of a new drainage system.”
In addition, drivers are encouraged to find alternate routes since “the ramp from southbound Redwood Road to northbound I-215 will close Friday, Aug. 8 at 11 p.m. through October as part of the reconstruction project,” UDOT stated.
Southbound I-215 between North Temple and SR-201 is also scheduled for nightly reductions down to two lanes starting Saturday, August 9, at 9 p.m., lasting through Monday morning, August 12, at 11 a.m., while workers install temporary barriers for work zone safety.
Further adjustments are planned for Wednesday evening, August 13: “On the evening of August 13, southbound I-215 will be temporarily reduced down to three lanes and southbound I-215 lanes will be shifted to the west through October to create a safe work zone for installing a new drainage system in the center of the freeway,” according to UDOT.
The department recently began reconstructing a key section of I-215 between SR-201 and North Temple. This project includes repaving three miles of interstate highway, resurfacing ramps on SR-201, I-80 and California Avenue over approximately fourteen miles, as well as rehabilitating twenty-two bridges along this corridor.
For travelers in Davis County on Interstate 15, UDOT announced that “southbound I-15 between 200 North and Park Lane [will] be reduced to one lane for two nights this weekend.” These closures occur from August 8–9 between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., allowing crews time for new lane striping. Additionally, “the southbound I-15 off-ramp to Park Lane (Exit 325) will be closed for striping the night of Aug. 9 as well.” Drivers should use Parrish Lane (Exit 319) as an alternative route during these times.
