Utah State University graduate Logan Garnica broke his own school record in the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase as the Aggie track and field team secured four titles and six podium finishes on April 16 at two major California competitions.
The team’s achievements came during the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa and the Pacific Coast Invitational in Long Beach. These results highlight strong performances across multiple events, with athletes setting personal bests and posting times that rank among the top ten in school history.
At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Garnica finished eighth overall with a time of 8:29.92, surpassing his previous record by four seconds. His performance now leads the Mountain West Conference, is fourth-fastest all-time in conference history, second-best this season in the NCAA West Region, and eighth nationally for 2026. Junior Garrett Woodhouse also set a personal best of 8:40.33 to finish third in his heat and move to third place on Utah State’s all-time list for the event.
In Long Beach, Utah State’s men’s 4×100-meter relay team—composed of Javin Richards, Mathew Hall, David Konan, and Ayodele Ojo Jr.—claimed first place with a time of 39.48 seconds. This marks the second-fastest relay time ever recorded by an Aggie squad. Senior Logan Hammer won the men’s pole vault with a season-best clearance of 5.60 meters (18-4.5), ranking him fourth regionally and sixth nationally this year.
Other notable performances included junior Claire Petersen’s fourth-place finish in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 13.58 seconds; an eighth-place finish by Petersen’s women’s relay squad; a meet-record win for Petersen alongside Annie Ivins, Heidi Harper, and Shay Jones in the women’s 4×400-meter relay; Taite Priestley tying for first place in men’s high jump; and Sam Beckwith taking second place in men’s long jump.
Utah State will continue competing at both ongoing meets through April 18.
