A Mexican citizen living in Riverton, Utah, has been indicted on federal drug and firearm charges. Ignacio Gonzalez, 27, was ordered to remain in federal custody following his arrest earlier this month.

According to court documents, federal law enforcement agents assisted the Taylorsville Police Department with a search warrant at a residence in Riverton on August 5, 2025. During the search, officers seized about 51.7 pounds of methamphetamine—each bag containing approximately 2.1 pounds—as well as a stolen Glock 43X pistol and other illegal drugs.

Gonzalez faces charges of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. His three-day jury trial is scheduled for November 3, 2025 at the Orrin G. Hatch United States District Courthouse in Salt Lake City.

Acting United States Attorney Felice John Viti for the District of Utah made the announcement.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and Taylorsville Police Department are investigating the case. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) provided special assistance.

Assistant United States Attorney Mark E. Woolf is prosecuting the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah.

This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America—a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice that combines resources from programs such as Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) to address illegal immigration and transnational criminal organizations.

“An indictment is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.”
