A Mexican national residing illegally in the United States has entered a guilty plea to charges involving drugs, firearms, and immigration violations in the District of Utah. Kevin Enrique Sanchez-Carrillo, 25, was initially indicted on April 8, 2025. The charges against him include possession of heroin with intent to distribute, alien in possession of a firearm, eluding examination or inspection by immigration officers, and failure to register.
Court documents detail that on April 3, 2025, law enforcement executed search warrants at Sanchez-Carrillo’s apartment in Draper, Utah and his vehicle. During the search of his residence, authorities discovered over 100 grams of field-tested heroin, a Smith and Wesson 9MM handgun with ammunition, and $7,750 in cash. Sanchez-Carrillo admitted to possessing the heroin for profit and acknowledged his illegal possession of the firearm due to his status as an undocumented immigrant.
Further admissions revealed that Sanchez-Carrillo entered the U.S. after December 14, 2023 without undergoing examination or inspection by immigration officials until he was apprehended on April 3. He also confessed to not applying for registration after being in the country illegally for more than 30 days.
Sanchez-Carrillo is scheduled for sentencing on September 4, 2025 at the Orrin G. Hatch United States District Courthouse in Salt Lake City.
Acting United States Attorney Felice John Viti announced these developments. The investigation is conducted jointly by the FBI Salt Lake City Field Office and Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Removal Operations division (ICE-ERO). The prosecution is handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah.
This case falls under Operation Take Back America—a Department of Justice initiative aimed at combating illegal immigration and dismantling cartels and transnational criminal organizations while protecting communities from violent crime perpetrators.
