Report: Utah ranked No. 36 for per-capita credit card fraud reports in 2023

Utah ranked No. 36 in the country for per-capita credit card fraud reports in 2023.

That’s according to an analysis of Federal Trade Commission (FTC) data reported by WalletHub.

Utah had 5.08 credit card fraud reports per 10,000 persons in the state.

Nationally, the FTC reported receiving 114,348 complaints of fraud in which the payment method was credit card. Those fraud complaints accounted for $246.1 million.

The FTC also reported receiving 416,582 reports of credit card identity theft in 2023.

WalletHub is a financial website that provides free credit scores and reports to consumers. 

The FTC is an independent agency of the United States government established in 1914. It is tasked with protecting consumers and promoting competition by preventing anticompetitive, deceptive, and unfair business practices. Lina M. Khan has been chair of the FTC since June 2021.
