U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) has introduced a resolution in the Senate following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, conservative leader and co-founder of Turning Point USA. The incident occurred on September 10, 2025, during an event at Utah Valley University where Kirk was addressing college students. A similar resolution was brought forward in the House of Representatives by Rep. Mike Kennedy (R-UT).
The resolution formally condemns Kirk’s assassination and honors his contributions to public discourse. It highlights Kirk’s founding of Turning Point USA in 2012, noting its rapid growth as a conservative campus advocacy group with numerous college chapters nationwide. The resolution also acknowledges Kirk’s efforts to foster open debate among students from different political backgrounds.
According to the text, “Charlie Kirk was horrifically assassinated on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University while speaking to a large group of college students;” and that he “was a devoted husband, father, and Christian.” The document further recognizes his role in encouraging civil discourse on campuses.
The Senate resolution states that it “condemns the assassination of Charlie Kirk in the strongest possible terms,” extends condolences to his family—specifically mentioning his wife Erika and their two young children—and honors his commitment to constitutional principles supporting discussion and debate regardless of political affiliation.
Senator Lee released a statement after Kirk’s death: “Charlie Kirk was an American patriot, an inspiration to countless young people to stand up and defend the timeless truths that make our country great.
“This murder was a cowardly act of violence, an attack on champions of freedom like Charlie, the students who gathered for civil debate, and all Americans who peacefully strive to save our nation.
“The terrorists will not win.
“Charlie will.
“Please join me in praying for his wife Erika and their children. May justice be swift.”
