U.S. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) has introduced the SAVE America Act alongside Congressman Chip Roy (R-TX). The bill is an expanded version of their earlier SAVE Act and now includes a provision requiring Voter ID for federal elections, in addition to proof-of-citizenship requirements for voter registration.

“The SAVE America Act makes our original SAVE Act better. President Trump rightly believes we should include Voter ID in this bill as we make a renewed push to secure our elections and protect the rights of American voters,” said Senator Mike Lee and Congressman Chip Roy. “By requiring Voter ID and proof-of-citizenship, the SAVE America Act will ensure that our federal elections are decided by U.S. citizens—and U.S. citizens alone.”

The proposed legislation aims to strengthen election integrity by:
– Requiring individuals to present eligible photo identification before voting,
– Mandating states obtain in-person proof of citizenship during voter registration,
– Requiring states to remove non-citizens from current voter rolls.

Senator Lee represents Utah in the United States Senate, where he works on issues such as limited government, fiscal responsibility, energy independence, military strength, public safety, health care, and economic matters according to his official website. He maintains offices throughout Utah and in Washington, D.C., offering constituent services related to federal matters.

Supporters of the bill cite concerns about non-citizen access to driver’s licenses and other benefits in several states, which they argue could allow illegal registration for federal elections. While only U.S. citizens can legally vote in these elections, existing federal law sometimes limits state efforts to require proof of citizenship for registration.
