Southern Utah University’s women’s softball team lost two closely contested games to UT Arlington on April 24, falling 6-4 and 6-5 during a road doubleheader in Texas. The Thunderbirds’ record now stands at 19-25 overall and 5-9 in Western Athletic Conference play.
The matchups were marked by strong offensive performances from several Southern Utah players. Freshman Savannah Lira led the team with four hits and three runs batted in over the two games. Sophomore Michaella Salvatierra also contributed four hits, including two doubles, and scored twice for the Thunderbirds. Junior Arianna Ramirez added consistency at the plate with two hits in each game and a pair of RBIs.
In the first game, Southern Utah took an early lead after Lira singled home Ramirez. However, UT Arlington responded quickly and regained control with timely hitting and aggressive baserunning. Isabella Knight tied the game for Southern Utah with a solo home run before UT Arlington pulled ahead again through a series of key plays, including a decisive two-run homer by Holland that secured their win.
Game two saw Southern Utah start strong, scoring four runs in the opening inning thanks to RBIs from Ramirez and Munoz. Despite this early advantage, UT Arlington rallied back to tie and then take the lead as both teams traded runs throughout the contest. A deep double by Neises put UT Arlington ahead for good at 6-5.
