The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah has announced its participation in National Night Out events across various cities in Utah. The office will join with law enforcement partners and community members to promote safer neighborhoods.
“Obtaining justice is a team effort and the U.S. Attorney’s Office could not do it without our law enforcement partnerships,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Felice John Viti for the District of Utah. “Our office remains committed to building and strengthening our existing partnerships with law enforcement and National Night Out is a great way to do that and to engage with the communities that we serve.”
National Night Out is an annual campaign aimed at fostering relationships between law enforcement agencies and local communities. The event takes place on the first Tuesday of August in most areas, involving millions of participants throughout thousands of communities nationwide.
The program began in 1984 with support from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, part of the U.S. Department of Justice, and is managed by the National Association of Town Watch, a non-profit organization. Activities during National Night Out include block parties, cookouts, festivals, parades, safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, and visits from emergency personnel. These activities are designed to bring police officers and residents together under positive circumstances.
