The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will reopen east-west travel on 13400 South in Riverton and open a new interchange at 2700 West in Bluffdale as part of ongoing improvements to Bangerter Highway. The reopening is scheduled for Monday, September 29.

To prepare for the reopening, eastbound travel on 13400 South from Old Liberty Way to the intersection with Bangerter Highway will be closed from Friday, September 26 at 10 p.m. until Monday, September 29 at 5 a.m. During this period, drivers will not be able to use the on-ramp from eastbound 13400 South to southbound Bangerter Highway and will be detoured onto Old Liberty Way.

Traffic will also shift onto the new interchange at 2700 West in Bluffdale over the same weekend, eliminating one stoplight for drivers.

These projects are part of UDOT’s effort to upgrade intersections along Bangerter Highway into freeway-style interchanges. Once work is complete at four key locations—4700 South, 9800 South, 13400 South, and 2700 West—UDOT estimates that drivers could save eight minutes in travel time.

“Getting 13400 South open in both directions gives people back valuable time in their day,” said UDOT Region Two Director Robert Stewart. “It’s another step in making Bangerter Highway a reliable, connected route for the whole southwest valley.”

Restoring access on 13400 South is expected to benefit businesses along Bangerter Highway by improving connections between commercial centers such as Mountain View Village, Jordan Landing, The District, and Salt Lake City International Airport.

“Reopening 13400 South makes it easier for our shoppers, employees and neighbors to get to Mountain View Village,” said Heather Nash, General Manager of Mountain View Village. “It reconnects us with the rest of the southwest valley and strengthens our ties to surrounding communities.”

Bangerter Highway previously carried about 62,000 vehicles daily before construction began. By the year 2050, traffic volume is projected to increase significantly—to approximately 128,000 vehicles per day—which underscores the need for these upgrades so that more cars can move through without stopping at lights.

Once all interchanges are fully operational later this year, Bangerter Highway will offer continuous flow from Interstate 15 in Draper northward to 4100 South in West Valley City. Construction on all four interchanges is expected to conclude by late October.
