Daniel David Egli, 51, from South Jordan, Utah, has been sentenced to over 19 years in federal prison after being convicted for possession of child pornography. The sentence includes a 210-month term and an additional two-year term for violating supervised release in a separate child exploitation case.
Senior U.S. District Court Judge Tena Campbell also ordered Egli to serve a lifetime term of supervised release following his imprisonment.
Court documents show that in spring 2021, while under federal supervision, Egli violated his release conditions. During a routine check by his probation officer, law enforcement found he had unauthorized electronic devices including a laptop and smartphone. These were seized along with other devices. Electronic evidence showed that Egli accessed and possessed nearly 500 images of child sexual abuse material, leading to the charges filed in 2022. More details about the earlier conviction can be found at this prior press release: Repeat Sex Offender Found Guilty of Possession of Child Pornography by a Federal Jury.
Egli has previously been convicted multiple times for child exploitation crimes over the past two decades and has repeatedly violated terms of supervised release.
“Egli is a repeat offender of child exploitation, and he has shown a complete lack of remorse and rehabilitation in his continued behavior,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Felice John Viti of the District of Utah. “Community safety is a priority of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and our law enforcement partners. Our community and the children in it are safer with Egli behind bars.”
The FBI Salt Lake City Field Office investigated the case, which was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Utah.
This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to address child sexual exploitation through coordinated efforts among federal, state, and local agencies.
