Utah State track and field athletes won seven medals and scored 83 team points on May 17, the final day of the 2026 Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Clovis, California.

The results highlight a strong performance for Utah State, with four performances ranking in the top-10 in school history. Artie Gulden, director of track & field and cross country at Utah State, said, “I’m really proud of both our teams. We have four conference champions and 16 that will receive All-Mountain West recognition, which I believe is the most we’ve had in a very long time.”

Senior Logan Hammer secured his seventh career gold medal by winning the men’s pole vault with a clearance of 5.55 meters. Hammer became the first Aggie to win the same event at four consecutive Mountain West outdoor championships. Junior Landon Bott claimed his second-straight outdoor 800-meter title with a time of 1:48.18, joining Clay Lambourne as one of only two Aggies to win this event twice.

The men’s 4×100-meter relay team won their event with a time of 39.87 seconds, marking Utah State’s first relay title since 2014. Ayodele Ojo Jr., part of that relay team, later broke the school record in the men’s 100 meters with a silver-medal finish at 10.09 seconds.

On the women’s side, junior Claire Petersen earned bronze in the women’s 100-meter hurdles while sophomore Shay Jones took bronze in the women’s 400 meters. Petersen and Jones also helped secure third place for Utah State’s women’s 4×400-meter relay team.

At championship’s end, Utah State’s men finished third overall with 109 points; women placed eighth with 47 points. Colorado State claimed the men’s title while New Mexico took home women’s honors.

Reflecting on recent achievements and looking ahead to future competitions Gulden said: “We’ve had lots of inspiring performances these past few days… We now look forward to the NCAA West prelims in a couple of weeks, where we hope to have more athletes than we’ve ever had at that meet.” Individual athletes will await selection for NCAA West First Rounds scheduled for May 27–30.
