Utah Valley athletes won seven medals on May 14 during the opening day of the Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Maverick Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The event saw Utah Valley secure two golds, three silvers, and a bronze, with several athletes setting personal bests and advancing to Saturday’s finals. The team leads both the men’s and women’s competitions after strong performances across multiple events.

Emily Conlin won gold in the pole vault with a personal best of 4.00 meters, ranking second all-time for Utah Valley. Morgan Nokes earned her fifth individual WAC championship of the season by winning the women’s 10,000 meters in 34:06.21. Reagan Doman took third place in that race with a time of 35:05.62.

Porter Whitworth finished second in the men’s 10,000 meters after nearly closing a ten-second gap over the final laps but ultimately finishing one second behind first place. Eddie Garcia achieved a new personal record in the hammer throw at 59.62 meters to take silver and conclude his collegiate career ranked third all-time for Utah Valley in that event.

Kate Carter earned silver in javelin with a throw of 44.71 meters as part of her freshman campaign improvement, while Gavin Stafford posted the fastest qualifying time for Saturday’s men’s 200-meter race at 20.50 seconds—the second-best mark ever for Utah Valley and currently ranked thirty-first nationally this season.

The championships continue Friday with final events for decathlon and heptathlon beginning at 8 a.m., followed by running event finals streamed live on ESPN+ from mid-afternoon.
