Utah Valley lost to the Tarleton State Texans, 7-2, on Senior Day, April 18. The game took place in Orem and saw Tatum Hall hit her tenth home run of the season while Britney Moreno went two-for-four with an RBI.
The matchup remained close for most of the afternoon. Utah Valley trailed by only two runs entering the sixth inning and by just two again entering the seventh. However, a four-run final inning from Tarleton State secured their win.
Before the game, Utah Valley honored its eight graduating seniors—Angelique Mann, Kendyl Purdy, Mya Higareda, Hannah Ortega, Emma Haygood, Britney Moreno, Payge Armendariz, and Bailey Marvin—with a first pitch ceremony and postgame recognition. This is the largest senior class for Utah Valley since 2018. Head coach Cody Thomson started all eight seniors in their final conference home game. Ortega started as pitcher and Armendariz made her first appearance in right field.
Ortega held Tarleton State to one earned run on four hits over three-plus innings before being relieved. She matched up against Shelby Schultz of TSU through three scoreless innings until TSU scored in the fourth inning.
Tarleton added more runs in subsequent innings before Hall’s home run put her among only sixteen Wolverines to hit ten or more home runs in a single season—and just the second left-handed batter to do so for Utah Valley.
The Texans extended their lead with a pinch-hit three-run double from Scarlett Poole in the seventh inning. Moreno’s RBI single brought another run for Utah Valley but was not enough to close the gap.
Utah Valley will finish its home schedule Tuesday against Utah State Aggies at 6 p.m., with coverage available on ESPN+.
