The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food (UDAF) is inviting public input regarding the newly established Utah Food Security Processing Grant Program (UFSPG). The State Legislature has allocated $1,000,000 for this program during its 2025 session, and UDAF plans to distribute grants to initiatives aimed at bolstering the local food supply chain.

These grants target Utah-based businesses to enhance the processing capacity of locally grown and raised agricultural products. Eligible expenses include costs related to processing equipment, coolers and freezers, contractor expenses for plumbing, draining, electrical work, building modifications, portion cutters, slaughter equipment, packaging upgrades, sorting equipment, and bottling equipment. The grant application period will open in early May 2025.

UDAF is requesting feedback to help set the program's priorities and criteria for eligibility via a survey to be completed by April 14, 2025. Questions can be directed to Allison Ross at [email protected].
